PESHAWAR: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Charsadda chapter’s office-bearers in the 49 union councils on Saturday threatened to renounce the basic membership of the party if its leadership continued meting out injustice to them.
Talking to The News here, PPP Tehsil Charsadda President Taimur Khan and others said all the office-bearers from Charsadda including general secretary Naeem Khan and other party workers belonging to the 49 union councils in the district were disappointed with the step-motherly attitude.
“We are fed up and cannot face our workers because none of the party leaders are ready to listen to our problems and address our grievances so it’s better to quit the party. We had decided to announce the decision, but have put it on hold on the request of our colleagues from Peshawar,” Taimur Khan said.
The ‘dissident’ PPP leaders maintained they had conveyed their problems to the leaders at the central and provincial level on several occasions, but none of the ministers or any other responsible person made any effort to remove their sense of deprivation.
He said that doing politics in Charsadda was not an easy task as the district was the stronghold of major political parties like Awami National Party (ANP), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Qaumi Watan Party (QWP).
“There is no justification for us to remain in the party if we cannot solve minor problems of our workers at a time when PPP is part of the coalition government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he added.
The local PPP leader said they had accorded warm welcome to PPP provincial President Anwar Saifullah Khan during his visit to Charsadda where he had made some announcement, but none of them could be implemented.
He claimed Minister for Population Salim Khan and Minister for Labour Sher Azam Khan belonged to the PPP, but the activists of the ANP were recently appointed against the vacant posts in both the ministries.
Taimur Khan said not a single class-IV from Charsadda had been appointed over four and a half year. “We are even unable to provide the Benazir Income Support Programme funds to a deserving person,” he complained.
