GPS No 2 win cricket title of Primary Schools Kids Games

Monday, September 16, 2013 - Peshawar—Muhammad Irfan guided Government Primary School No. 2 Babara to 5 runs victory in the cricket final event of the District Charsadda Primary Schools Kids Games being played at Cricket Ground Charsadda on Sunday.

Assistant Commissioner Charsadda Saif-ul-Islam was the chief guest at the cricket and football finals. District Education Officer Moinuddin, District Sports Officer Jamshed Baloch, AD Sports Arshad Khan, teaching staff, officials and large number of schools kids and spectators were also present at the two finals.

In the cricket final GPS No. 2 Babara Charsadda won the toss and elected to bat first by setting up 82 runs target after playing the allotted 10 overs match.

Muhammad Irfan struck elegant 36 runs with four boundaries. Besides Irfan, Usman and Imran also made 17 and 10 runs respectively. For GPS No. 1, Taimur Khan and and Sajid Ali took two wickets each while Abdul Ahad and Gul Rehman got one wicket each.

In reply, GPS No. 1 bundled out for 78 runs with Sajid Ali was the highest contributor who made 24 runs with one boundary. Usman and Jabbar Khan scored 14 and 11 runs respectively.

For GPS No. 2 Babara Muhammad Irfan, with his right-arm off spin bowler took three wickets and was also declared as Man of the Match. Tajamal, Rahim Khan, Ihsan Ullah took two wickets each.

In the football final GPS Babara No. 1 beat GPS No. 2 by 4-3. Muhammad Atif, Gul Siraj, Inayat Ullah scored one goal each for the winner while for the runners-up team Jaffar Ali, Aurangzeb and Babar Khan scored one goal each.

At the end, the chief guest AC Charsadda Saif-ul-Islam awarded trophies. He, on this occasion, also distributed cricket, football, volleyball and basketball equipments of worth Rs. two millions among the youth of all UCs, Primary, High and Higher Secondary Schools of District Charsadda.

In his brief chat, Saif-ul-Islam advised the schools kids to take active part in healthy sports activities. He said the youth are the future of the country and involving them in healthy activities would lead to establish a healthy society.

He said it is for the first time in the history of District that games have been arranged for the school kids, child labour, special kids, people from the trade unionists and unjuman-e-tajaran, Charsadda.

He also lauded DSO Jamshed Baloch for initiating healthy activities at grassroots. A total of 20 schools from all across the district are taking part in the 20-days festival.—APP
