Profile of elected KPK Chief Minister Pervez Khattak
Central Secretary General of PTI and the newly elected CM Pervez Khan Khattak is a senior and experienced politician‚ who was elected MPA for record 5 times.
He did his Senior Cambridge from Aitchison College and later completed graduation from Gordon College‚ Rawalpindi.
Khattak had started his political career as a member of the district council in 1983 and later jumped to the national mainstream politics. He was elected to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly for record five times‚ the last time on May 11‚ 2013.
In general election 2013‚ Khattak won the National Assembly seat NA-5 Nowshera-I and provincial assembly seat‚ PK-13 in Nowshera-II from the PTI platform and defeated his political opponents with huge margin.
Also‚ he remained the provincial minister of industries twice and once served as irrigation minister in the ANP-led government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.Later‚ he resigned from the Ministry of Irrigation due to difference with past government and joined PTI with a mission to serve his people with more dedication and zeal.
As a true democrat‚ he contested PTI;s intra party election 2013 and lost the party's provincial president Asad Qaiser with a narrow margin. However‚ he did not disappoint and made inroads in the party by defeating senior PTI leader Dr. Arif Alvi on post of Central General Secretary.
He also remained the first district nazim in Nowshera. He belonged to a political family of Nowshera. His cousin Nasrullah Khattak was the chief minister of the province when Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was the prime minister of Pakistan.
During his long political career‚ Pervez Khattak also remained the provincial president of the Pakistan People's Party-Sherpao (now renamed Qaumi Watan Party). Khattak will take oath as 16th Chief Minister of KP at Governor House Peshawar at 6pm today. KP Governor Engr Shaukatullah Khan will administer oath to him. Since the inception of Pakistan‚ Pervez Khattak is the 16th elected chief minister of KP.
The newly elected CM Pervez Khattak told APP that priority of his government would be establishment of peace‚ good governance and elimination of corruption. He said zero tolerance would be adopted against corruption and reforms would be introduced in education‚ health and social sectors.
He said opposition would be taken along on national issues to put the province on tract of development. He thanked the MPAs for reposing full confidence in him as Leader of the House.
Meanwhile‚ success of Pervez Khan Khattak has sparked jubilation in his native district of Nowshera. The people and his supporters have distributed sweets and danced on beats of drums.
