The old name of District Charsadda was "PUSHKALAVATI", but english people could not pronounciate this word correctly and a man named 'Hero Dotus' suggest an english alternate name for this as 'PEUCELAOTIS'-the flower of Lotus as the city of Charsadda is well known as 'the city of Lotus'.

Measures to avert flood damages
Thursday, June 13, 2013 - Peshawar—Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister, Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao Wednesday directed the commissioners of Malakand, Peshawar divisions, deputy commissioners of Charsadda and Nowshera districts and Secretary Irrigation to remain vigilant and take precautionary to avert expected flood damages. He issued these directives during telephonic conversation about reports of high floods in the rivers Kabul and Swat. Sikandar Sherpao said, he would soon visit to the affected areas to review the safety measures and directed Secretary Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Secretary Irrigation department to remain take preventive measures to minimize flood damages. He also stressed to create awareness about flood situation amongst the people living near the river banks. The senior minister said that the government would leave no stone unturned to protect the people and their properties from flood. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has setup a flood emergency centre at Irrigation Division Peshawar, which will commence 24 hours information service from June 15. A spokesman of Irrigation Department told APP here on Wednesday, the Cell has been setup at the office of Executive Engineer Hydrology Irrigation Division, Peshawar to share information about water situation and floods with all stakeholders. He said Executive Engineer Hydrology, Inyatullah Khan Wazir has already been nominated as Focal Person of the Cell.—APP
