The old name of District Charsadda was "PUSHKALAVATI", but english people could not pronounciate this word correctly and a man named 'Hero Dotus' suggest an english alternate name for this as 'PEUCELAOTIS'-the flower of Lotus as the city of Charsadda is well known as 'the city of Lotus'.

79 killed, 202 injured in bomb blasts across Pakistan in August
79 killed, 202 injured in bomb blasts across Pakistan in August
At least 79 people were killed and 202 others got injured in 19 bomb blasts including one suicide attack that took place across Pakistan during the month of August, according to official statistics.
The official data revealed that the suicide blast that targeted police in southwest of Pakistan killed 39 and injured 40 others.
August was the only month this year, in which less than one hundred killings took place in the bomb attacks by the militants.
Since the Pakistan's incumbent government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif hinted to hold peace talks with militants, especially Pakistani Taliban, a drop was seen in the number of lethal attacks in the country.
Out of 19 attacks, only three were of serious nature that targeted security forces, police and civilians.
The worst one of them was witnessed on Aug. 8, when a suicide bomber attacked a mosque located in the Police Lines in the southwestern provincial capital of Quetta where hundreds of policemen and civilians were gathering to attend the funeral of their colleague who was shot dead by militants. At least 39 people including 16 policemen and five police officers were killed and 40 others injured in the attack that was later claimed by the Pakistani Taliban.
One day before the Quetta blast, a remote controlled bomb explosion targeted the spectators who were leaving a football stadium after watching a match in the southern port city of Karachi, killing 11 and leaving 26 others injured.
During the period, 16 occasions civilians were the direct target of the militants' bomb attacks in 16 occasions that killed 40 people and injured 154 others.
Security personnel and policemen came under attack three times directly in which 25 personnel lost their lives while 48 others sustained injuries.
Militant conducted two direct attacks at security forces during the month and killed four personnel besides leaving eight others injured.
On Aug. 22, at least four security personnel were killed when a roadside bomb blast targeted an army convoy when security personnel were returning to their unit after conducting peaceful by-elections in Karachi.
Pakistan's northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that was always the soft target of the militants remained unhurt as there was no causality reported in any blast.
South Western province of Balochistan was the worst hit province with nine attacks followed by five blasts in northwestern tribal regions and four in southern province of Sindh.
The country's most populated eastern province of Punjab, that contains 60 percent of total population, was hit once when a bomb ripped through a train cabin in the Toba Tek Singh district of the province.
Majority of the bomb blasts were carried out with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) by planting it on roadsides or fixing it in vehicles.
Most of the attacks remained unclaimed.
Experts believed that less number of bomb attacks would be seen in September as the government has postponed the execution of Taliban prisoners and has been working to start dialogue with militants. In August, Pakistani government ordered a temporary stay of executions of prisoners days before they were due to be hanged and the decision was welcomed by Taliban.

Lucky number three: Nawaz Sharif takes oath as prime minister
Lucky number three: Nawaz Sharif takes oath as prime minister

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif became the first politician in the country’s parliamentary history to make it to the office of prime minister for a third time, reported Express News on Wednesday.
Nawaz Sharif beat his competition by receiving a total of 244 votes, whereas Makhdoom Javed Hashmi received 31 votes and Makdhoom Amin Fahim recieved a total of 42 votes.
After formally chosen by a vote in the National Assembly, Sharif is about to take his oath under President Asif Ali Zardari.
Nawaz was up against two candidates: Makhdoom Javed Hashmi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Makhdoom Amin Fahim of Pakistan Peoples Party-Parliamentarians (PPPP).
The National Assembly is occupied by around 190 first time MNAs and witnessed the return of some veteran politician including former railways minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed and former premier Mir Zafarullah Jamali.
PML-N holds a simple majority in the 342-member National Assembly.
With a simple majority, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will take on the helm of affairs at a time when Pakistan is facing myriad problems from militancy to a shaky economy, worsening power crisis and failing public education and healthcare systems.
Addressing the Lower House
Nawaz Sharif briefly addressed the parliament after his victory was announced. He began by thanking God for allowing him yet another chance to serve Pakistan and its people.
“I want to thank the people of Pakistan for placing their trust in PML-N and I will reciprocate by working hard. Their trust is an asset for me as well as my strength,” said Nawaz.
“The people have decided and proven that they believe in democracy,” Nawaz added.
Touching on pressing issues, Nawaz Sharif called for the United States to end its campaign of drone attacks in the country’s tribal northwest.
“We respect the sovereignty of others and they should also respect our sovereignty and independence. This campaign should come to an end,” he said.
Overcrowding causes delay
The session was delayed by an hour due to overcrowding in the parliament house as more than 2000 guests turned up to see the historic transition.
Guests, most of whom had legitimate passes to enter the parliament house, were shifted to the media gallery which frustrated reporters present at the venue. The house is meant to seat nearly 700 observers, thus the surplus of 1300 individuals added last minute chaos.
Speaker Ayaz Sadiq personally went to the media gallery to speak to disgruntled reporters and guests and urged for cooperation.
“I want to apologize to the house and our friends from the media and I take full responsibility for what has happened today. More cards were issued than capacity allowance,” said Sadiq.
Oath disrupted
Maulana Fazlur Rehman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazlur Rehman (JUI-F) had to pause between his oath-taking as Nawaz Sharif walked in to the parliament. Slogans were chanted enthusiastically on Nawaz’s arrival which made it difficult to administer the oath to Fazlur Rehman by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
Celebrations
Supporters of the PMLN celebrated by dancing to the tune of dhols on the streets and distributed sweets in Lahore and Multan even before the official vote count or announcement took place.
It was near certain that party Chief Nawaz Sharif would win the race to premiership owing to abundant support in the assembly.
Support
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had offered its ‘unconditional support’ to Nawaz Sharif. On Tuesday, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazlur Rehman also promised to vote for Nawaz as a ‘goodwill gesture’.
“Ideologically, we are closer to the PML-N. And as a goodwill gesture we have decided to support the PML-N and will vote for Nawaz Sharif,” said Maulana Fazlur Rehman after a meeting with a PML-N delegation, comprising Ahsan Iqbal, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Khwaja Saad Rafique. JUI-F lawmakers had also voted for PML-N’s candidates in Monday’s election of National Assembly speaker and deputy speaker.

Imran Khan falls off stage at Lahore rally; sustains serious injuries
Imran Khan falls off stage at Lahore rally; sustains serious injuries
TV footage showed him tumbling down along with three or four personal body guards on a pick up truck. The PTI chief was seen bleeding when he was taken away by his party supporters to the city’s Liberty Hospital.
The 60-year-old, who has undertaken a punishing schedule of daily rallies but who is known for his physical fitness, tumbled from a riser along with several of his staff, seemingly after one of them lost their balance.
Witness Raza Zaidi told AFP that Khan was being lifted on a crane with five people but lost his balance and fell when a sixth one tried to climb up. Khan hit the lifter before falling on the ground.
Khan sustained injuries on his head and back, said the hospital sources. They also said that Khan had to have as many as 16 stitches due to the injuries he sustained at back of his head.
The rally was held near Ghalib Market in Lahore’s Gulberg neighbourhood.
PTI spokeswoman Shirin Mazari told AFP Khan was injured on his forehead after falling from a height of more than seven feet (over two metres), but was conscious.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz issued sympathetic statements to their competitor in Punjab. They prayed for swift recovery of Khan.
Sharif, in rare goodwill gesture, has asked his party workers to immediately halt the media advertisements against Imran Khan.
Famous singer and PTI leader Abrarul Haq has said the party chief is out of danger and stable now at the hospital. Another party leader Asad Umar, talking to Dawn.com, also confirmed that Khan is now conscious and well.
People at the rally venue, where thousands had gathered, expressed sadness.
“Passion and love for Imran Khan brought all these people here. We are still here, all we can do is pray now,” said Sobia Khan, a PTI supporter. Dawn.Com
